Audio Books Are Here To Stay!
By Scott Sutherland
Audiobooks are by far one of my favorite ways to learn and explore the world through literature. They are available for all ages, on virtually any topic. As the name implies, audiobooks are books presented in recorded audio format. And with the improvements in technology, computer speed, and availability of MP3 players, audiobooks are now only a download away.
Downloadable audiobooks are digital versions of audiobooks that are available through the Internet. Choose from thousands of downloadable audio books, radio programs and much more. They are a way of keeping up with the latest information and ideas painlessly. Because audiobooks are recorded, they obviously can reach more people. That's why audiobooks are so popular. Audiobooks are being produced now in huge quantities.
Known as "books on tape" in their previous, less hip incarnation, audiobooks are the ultimate in multitasking. They are compatible with a wide range of portable listening devices. Audiobooks are the best kept secret in the reading world. Currently, 37 per cent of audiobooks are purchased at the retail level, while 38 per cent are borrowed from libraries. Digital downloadable audiobooks are another format of spoken word audio, like cassettes or CDs. The availability of downloadable audiobooks, coupled with the ever-increasing and widespread use of iPods and MP3 players, makes audiobooks a great way to get some reading done when you have no time to read. The number of online stores selling audiobooks is increasing every day, and so is the number of titles available. Major publishers are jumping into this area with both feet.
Audiobooks are the most popular and fastest growing area of the publishing world and show no signs of slowing down. You can take advantage of that fact. Get yourself an iPod or other portable listening device, and get caught up on that reading list of yours! |
